February 05, 2008, the Medicine Auditorium at the San Martin de Porres Building of the University of Santo Tomas became a lush urban wilderness set ablaze by the excitement of the crowd. It was 6' o clock, a young Tuesday night when the flora and fauna met the dusty pavements and towering skyscrapers in front of the preying eyes of the waiting audience. It was when safari met modernity,
The preying judges were tasked to be the hunters who will discover the best pair based on their instincts and candidates' looks, talents, intelligence and personalities. The judging panel was graced by credible people in the entertainment and media industry namely the Bb. Pilipinas- Universe 2005, Gionna Cabrera, TV Host John “Sweet” Lapuz, Mr. World 2004, Rocky Salumbidez, the President of Mutya ng Pilipinas, Robert de Venecia, Monet Ibanez from John Robert Powers, commercial model Grace Pagdanganan, Jonas Gaffad from Mercator Model Agency, Ino Caluza the maker of Viktor Jeans, GMA New and Current Affairs Reporter and MMFF '07 Best Director, Cesar Apolinario and finally fashion designer Jerome Ang, the chairman of the panel. In the end David Chua, Mr. Fine Arts and Design and Angela Fernando, Ms. Pharmacy bagged the most coveted title, the Ideal Thomasian Personalities 2008. It was somehow predictable because the two garnered most of the special awards. Mr. Architecture and Ms. Accountancy were the First Runner Up and Mr. Pharmacy and Ms. Science won the Second Runner Up respectively. Mr. CFAD and Ms. Pharmacy, as the new Ideal Personalities, must embody the three C's of UST which are compassion, commitment and competence and they should live up to the Thomasian identity.
